ITEX Expands Resident Support with Free AI-Powered Learning Tools, Bridging Educational Gaps

ITEX is bringing free access to AI tutors to its residents.

Houston, TX – September 11, 2025 – ITEX’s new initiative bridges educational gaps with technology designed to expand access to education, resources, and life-skills support. This initiative not only introduces advanced tools, but also bridges the digital divide that disproportionately affects lower to moderate income households. “It could be a game-changer for thousands of residents in ITEX’s multifamily communities,” says Jacob Gardner, Marketing Director of ITEX, “it means kids can have access to daily homework help, adults can practice ESL or study for their GED, or even get financial or career guidance.”

Unlike traditional office-hour programs, ITEX’s AI-supported platform is available 24/7, recognizing that many residents work long or irregular schedules. A recent report found that 87% of extremely low-income renters are cost-burdened. Many juggle multiple jobs or caregiving responsibilities, making round-the-clock access to resources a necessity, not a luxury.

At the same time, research shows that children from low-income households enter school with significant disadvantages. On average, five years behind in literacy skills compared to higher-income peers. These barriers are compounded by limited access to tutors, career counselors, and technology at home.

“Access to technology can open doors, especially in communities where it hasn’t always been readily available,” said Chris Akbari, CEO of ITEX. “By offering free, AI-supported access available 24/7, we’re removing barriers and giving residents tools to succeed.”

The AI platform is built with guardrails to ensure conversations stay focused on supportive services. It also works hand-in-hand with ITEX’s onsite efforts, such as GED prep classes, health and wellness visits, and financial literacy workshops. Rather than replacing in-person services, the technology enhances them, offering residents immediate, on-demand guidance that complements existing programs.

Looking ahead, ITEX is expanding the platform to help residents search for and understand local resources, from workforce programs to health services, creating a digital companion that adapts to their evolving needs.

“We’ve already seen residents use the AI alongside our onsite programs, and the feedback has been promising,” said John Gonzalez, ITEX’s SVP of Operations & CX. “The real innovation is in combining technology with human-centered services, meeting residents where they are and when they need it most.”

By combining 24/7 digital access with community-based programs, ITEX continues to set a new standard for what affordable housing can deliver: not just a place to live, but a foundation for growth, education, and opportunity.
